Men’s Basketball Upsets Number One Ranked Team in the Country!
Last night the Trinity Lions faced off against The Spurgeon College Knights, from Kansas City,
Missouri. Coming into the game, Spurgeon College was undefeated (8-0), and ranked number one in the entire country! The Knights had some very impressive showings this season including a game where they put up 162 points! The Knights as a team were averaging 109.3 points per game. The Lions really locked in defensively and were able to slow down the Knights explosive offense. The Knights were held to just 83 points as the Lions won the game 103-81!
The Lions snagged 17 steals, forcing 23 turnovers, and as a team totaled 24 assists. All five starters scored in double figures: Freshman guard Arsene Metzger led the Lions with a career high 22 points. Metzger was 8/14 from the field and 3/5 from the 3pt line! Arsene also grabbed 7 boards and dishsed out 5 assists! Jonathan Ogugua followed up with 19 points, Jordan Reeves had 16 points, 4 blocks and 6 rebounds, while Damien Walters Jr. and Thalit Bayath each chipped in 13 points. Freshman Guard Sam Franks added great minutes off the bench, putting in 7 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists!
The Lions are back in action next week and will face off against The University of Minnesota-Morris, and then against the number six ranked team Crown College Polars on Tuesday, December 9th.
