Men’s Basketball Defeats NAIA Bismarck State!
Men's basketball traveled to Bismarck, North Dakota, for an exhibition game against Bismarck State College!
The Lions came out scorching hot to start the game, with 3pt shooting from senior forward Damien Walters Jr. and senior guard Jonathan Ogugua finishing at the rim. The Lions took an early 11-point lead in the first five minutes of the game. The first half concluded with the Lions leading 48-40!
In the second half, Bismarck State came out with new energy and went on a run to cut into the lead, and with fourteen minutes left in the second half, Bismarck took an eight-point lead. The Lions continued to battle back and made a run of their own. The Lions cut the eight-point lead to just two. The Lions took the lead back off an AND-1 layup from Jonathan Ogugua. The final minutes were back and forth, but with under two minutes left sophomore guard Mason Bates drilled a corner 3 giving the Lions a one-point lead!
Bismarck had a chance to win the game with 12.3 seconds on the clock but missed a midrange jumper. The Lions closed out the game 83-82!
Damian Walters Jr. Leading the charge with 15 points, Jonathan Ogugua put up a near triple-double with 14 points and 9 assists. Mason Bates and Sam Franks chipped in 12 and 11 points each off the bench!
Men's Basketball will be back in action this weekend in Canada against conference opponent University of Saintboniface!
